Stalba Brings Home the Englishtown SummerNationals Super Comp Wally
June 7, 2015
After a successful 2014 season, Tom Stalba has picked up where he left off. The season started at Virginia Motorsports Park for the Lucas Oil Division 1 Points Series event, which was postponed due to rain. Stalba and wife Karen, who was qualified in Top Alcohol Dragster, were unable to return to the event due to son Paul’s 1st Communion on the day of the reschedule. Next up was the Reading Lucas Oil Divisional in Mohnton, PA. Tom lost 5th round in Super Gas and 4th round in Super Comp, in what was a pretty successful weekend.
Tom has been very busy preparing a second location for his A.A. Auto Salvage, Inc. business, so racing has not been the first thing on his mind. He had second thought about heading to Englishtown due to the demands of his business, but with the track being located so close to home he knew he had to go. Tom suffered a first round loss in Super Gas, but he didn’t let him lose focus. He went on to win the National Event Wally. While Tom was winning Sunday, his son Paul won his first round of Jr Dragster competition at Atco Dragway with Karen helping him out.
Tom would like to thank all those company and people that help him out. Thanks to Charlie Yannetti for keeping the car ready in between rounds. Thank you to Lucas Oil Products, Hoosier Racing Tire, K&N Filters, Sunset Racecraft, Steve Everett, Mahle Aftermarket (Clevite Bearings) Autometer, and the crew at A.A. Auto Salvage, Inc. Without the support of some great people and great reliable products, Tom feels he would not be as successful.
Tom Stalba isn’t a stranger to the winner’s circle. After a 2014 Season that produced 4 Divisional Wins in 5 Finals, including a very rare “Triple” winning 3 Wallys in one weekend at Cecil County Dragway, Tom Stalba doesn’t have anything to prove. The incredible season gave Tom his 7th Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Divisional Championship and Tom was voted Driver of the Year at the Division 1 NHRA Banquet in January. This honor from his peers ranks as one of the many great highlights of his career.
Tom became only the second driver to win 3 Wallys in one weekend when he won rain-delayed Atco Divisional race that was held on Friday of the Cecil County Divisional in his Super Comp Dragster, then he went on to win the Cecil County race in both Super Comp and Super Gas on Sunday of the same weekend. The wins in Super Comp helped to secure Tom’s 7th Division Championship, and two season wins in Super Gas secured him a 2nd place finish in Super Gas in the division, finishing 1 point behind 1st place. Tom was seeking a Dual Championship, but was still very satisfied with finishing 1st and 2nd.
There are many companies that Tom relies on to keep his cars in top shape and give him the consistency required to win so many rounds of racing a season. Tom thanks Hoosier Racing Tire, Lucas Oil Products and Jeff Kundratic at JKR Racing, VP Race Fuels, K&N Filters, Sunset Racing Engines, and Jeg’s. Tom also thanks A.A. Auto Salvage, Inc. for giving him the avenue to travel the country to chase championships. Tom would also like to thank Steve Everett for his support and all the work he does on his race cars, and Tom Benkovich for always being in the race shop to help fix anything that needs it. Tom would also like to welcome Mahle Aftermarket and Clevite on board for 2015. See the links page for their website and check out their great products, and follow them on Facebook and Twitter for informative videos and how-to’s for any project you may be working on.
2015 looks to be another promising year, and along with wife Karen and children Paul and Emily, Tom is ready to get started defending his Super Comp title and also working toward the one thing he has come oh-so-close-to, a National Championship.
